Prestained standards are used in SDS-PAGE and western blotting applications. They provide a quick and easy way to assess blotting efficiency and allow continuous monitoring of protein separations during electrophoresis. Prestained standards can be used as a control for repetitive blotting experiments, or in locating proteins for excision from unstained preparative gels.

Prestained standards are provided preblended in a stable sample buffer. No reconstitution or further dilution is necessary before use. The glycerol content of the buffer prevents the proteins from freezing solid at -20 °C, eliminating freeze/thaw degradation and the need to aliquot. Instructions are provided with each vial.

Calibrated Molecular Weights

The covalent binding of the dyes to the standard proteins is an uncontrolled reaction, and produces lot-to-lot variation in the molecular weights of the proteins. For this reason, Bio-Rad individually calibrates the molecular weights of every lot with Bio-Rad's SDS-PAGE molecular weight standards. The calibrated molecular weights make prestained standards useful for estimating the molecular weights of the sample proteins; however, for precise molecular weight determinations, use Bio-Rad's SDS-PAGE molecular weight standards.

Kaleidoscope Prestained Standards

Kaleidoscope prestained standards contain seven individually colored proteins, allowing instant band recognition on western blots or SDS-PAGE gels, even when the dye front has run off the bottom of the gel. The molecular weights of each lot are individually calibrated and included with every vial.

Kaleidoscope Polypeptide Standards

Kaleidoscope polypeptide standards are for use with Tricine gels when resolving peptides and small protein subunits. Each vial contains five individually colored proteins, allowing instant band recognition on western blots or SDS-PAGE gels. The molecular weights of each lot are individually calibrated and included with every vial.

Prestained SDS-PAGE Standards

Bio-Rad's original prestained SDS-PAGE standards are available in high, low, and broad ranges, so you can select the range that is best for your application. The molecular weights of each lot are individually calibrated and included with every vial.

Prestained SDS-PAGE standards assess the efficiency of electrophoretic transfer on western blots. 5 µl of broad range prestained SDS-PAGE standards were run on a 4–20% Ready Gel and transferred to nitrocellulose in the Mini Trans-Blot cell.

THE MARKERS USED IN CLASS IS SHOWN IN BLUE IN THE TABLE BELOW. THERE SHOULD BE 6 BANDS WITH THE SMALLEST OF THEM BEING 7.1 kDa.
