• behavioral ecology of social insects, particularly the fungus-gardening ants
• molecular evolution and population genetics of sexual reproduction in fungi cultivated by attine ants
• distribution and effects of invasive species, particularly the little fire ant Wasmannia auropunctata
• biogeography and species range changes
