Stengl “Lost Pines” Biology Station

Home Sweet Home!

My wife, Pat, and I are in residence at SLP. When we arrived in 1997 we had  Tabitha, the nastiest cat in the world, but she moved on so Scout is the new top dog (although Angel Marie gives him a run for his frisbee!). In between the two we had adopted a house lizard (his name was Buddy) and have enjoyed watching the annual building of "the persimmon trail" by leaf-cutter ants. Of course, we could've adopted any of the many stray dogs and cats that seem to find me wherever I am—including puppies that pop out of nowhere!

Everyday is a new adventure...we're still having fun trying to keep the pocket gopher (affectionately known as "Gopher Pyle") from digging the house out from under us, watching the birds at the feeders on weekend mornings, admiring the small butterfly and native plant garden we've built on the south and east sides of the house (as well as the new north gardens, the greenhouse and its adjacent garden), keeping the odd transient (white-footed mice, etc.) out of the house, and just generally exploring the "back 200" and discovering the flora and fauna.

More to come...
