New Research Greenhouse...

The new research greenhouse is now operational.

The structure is 24' wide x 48' long (1152 sq ft) polycarbonate clad, oriented with the long axis of the house east-west. The greenhouse includes 3 rows of LPS grow lights and photocell and timer controls, 4-10 KW heaters, roof and endwall vents with evaporative cooling system, exhaust and air circulation fans with insect screening around all vents and all associated computer controls, with an emergency back-up generator. A complete electronic weather station will soon be added to the computer control system.

The power systems (including normal and emergency panels plus an automatic transfer switch) and the prep. counter, sink and storage shelves. A small point-of-use hot water heater provides hot water at the sink.

The potting bench and greenhouse control systems.

Greenhouse benches are modular to allow for multiple configurations. Here insect (butterfly) cages and rearing buckets are easily accommodated on the high back and lower front tiers, respectively, of the benches. Note the chiller (evaporative cooling) pad in the background and one of the grow lights.
