RESEARCH INTERESTS:
My goal was to characterize the Heme Iron Transport System in enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7. These organisms have been implicated as agents responsible for numerous outbreaks of hemorrhagic colitis and the hemolytic uremic syndrome. My interest was to elucidate how this bacteria use iron from the host and to define the importance of the iron transport systems in pathogenesis.
