Shelley M. Payne in the Section of Molecular Genetics & Microbiology at the University of Texas at Austin

Our studies focus on the genetics and regulation of iron acquisition systems and other virulence factors of Shigella and Vibrio species, which are intestinal pathogens. The iron transport systems are of particular interest because the ability of potential pathogens to acquire iron from the host is an important determinant of microbial virulence.
