How 106 Genes are Regulated in Webs of Interactions
(yeast cells)

These diagrams are from Lee, et al., Science 298:799. 25 October 2002.

The arrangement around the circle represents the following:

  • All 106 transcriptional regulators studied are segregated into functional categories on the basis of their primary functions of their target genes, indicated by color key (clockwise from top):
    • Red = Cell Cycle
    • Black = Developmental Processes
    • Orange = DNA/RNA/Protein Biosynthesis
    • Green = Environmental Response
    • Blue = Metabolism
  • Lines with arrows depict binding of a regulator to gene encoding another regulator.
  • Circles with arrows in margin depict binding of a regulator to the promoter region of its own gene.
