Instructions for submitting written assignments

There are substantial resources for undergraduates for writing available on campus. Check these out, and be sure you know how to take advantage of them when needed.
  1. Be sure you have followed the correct procedures to avoid plagiarism. For specific examples  and ways of detecting plagiarism, visit the CWRL web site. The University encourages this standard be followed for official writing component classes such as this one.
  2. Write essays using MS Word. Place your name and title of assignment at the top of the page.
  3. When you save your word document, name it using the convention:
    FS301LastName-last4digitsofID-Assignment#.doc --
    note: use no spaces

    FS118LastName-last4digitsofID-AssignmentI#.doc
    --
    note: use no spaces.

Include dashes (-) on both sides of the last 4 digits of your ID,
and the Assignment# for example, will be
1 for first assignment, 2 for second assignment, etc.. For example:

    FS301Smith-4567-1.doc or

    FS118Jones-1234-2.doc

If you use a Macintosh computer and in an emergency must save a file on a disc, be sure the disc is in PC or DOS format if you submit the disc for grading.
This compatibility restriction is avoided by attaching your Mac file to email.
  4. Submit your FS301 assignments as email attachments to destiny301@lists.cc.utexas.edu .
In the Subject line of your email write:
FS301 LastName, FirstName, Assignment (insert number),
    e.g. Subject: FS301 Smith, Anne, Assignment 1

or for FS118 submissions send email attachments, and in the Subject line write:
FS118 LastName, FirstName, Assignment (insert number), to destiny118@lists.cc.utexas.edu
     e.g. Subject: FS118 Jones, Jim, Assignment 2
  5. We will insert comments in your essay and return the file to you by email.
  6. Write your name on your essay, and give your essay any appropriate title, adding references as footnotes inserted using the Word command "Insert footnote (bottom of page) Autonumber". Also, you may include any explanatory comments as footnotes. Footnote information is to give credit and to allow an interested reader to review your footnote for their own interest.
  7. The required lengths will be by word count of the body of your essay (omitting your name, titles, and footnotes). Please single space text, use 11 or 12 point type, and either Times New Roman or Arial font.
  8. When you cite information sources, give the source in the footnote so that I can find it if I wish. Citations are in any form that is clear and adequate for giving sources due credit and making them traceable. Web citations are acceptable, provided you meet the appropriate conditions for reliability. Citations from class presentations and discussions may be informal by name(s) of your classmates, visitors (if names are known) and presenters.
