Return to Image Archive of Central Texas Plants

habit and habitat--Thelesperma simplicifolium is an herbaceous perennial that inhabits open, dry limestone sites (these plants happen to be living next to an ephemeral creek) head--this is an example of a radiate head (one with both ray and disk flowers).  How is this head different from the heads of Thelesperma filifolium?

head again, from the side, showing phyllaries (bracts that subtend the inflorescence) leaves--these leaves are adapted for xeric (very dry) areas.  What shape do they have?
